No witty remarks today, just the facts.

  • A 10 year old girl managed to use a DS to warn a friend that she had been abused by a 42 year old man. I can’t check if this is true but chilling if it is, doubly so if you consider how this would have developed had she used a PS3 or an Xbox 360 instead. “Guys help I’m being raped” / “lol stfu fag” / “girls don’t play videogames” / “asl/ “learn to play or gtfo”, etc.
  • Since I don’t follow Gamespot, this piece by Matthew Peters in August passed me by. Called “The Blind Gaming the Blind“, it’s a piece about blind gamers coming to terms with another world that acts blindly to them – that of videogames.
  • Remains of a Persian army rumored to have disappeared in Egypt 2,500 years ago have been found.
  • Rich McCormick, nice guy and regular writer for PC Gamer and other places, explores his formative gaming past and explains how “Roh, Reh!” in International Superstar Soccer was quite the thing for him. Here’s him talking about The Void, quite likely this year’s PC hidden gem which I’ll only play somewhere around December :(
  • Amiga Power legend J. Nash resurfaced on the net. There’s not a whole lot to the site right now but you can find his inimitable style on what is there, in particular this mammoth diary as he played through Driver 3. “UPDATE. Bus shelters are also made of infinitely dense indestructibilium-44″. Awesome.
  • Dogs welcoming soldiers. Basically, a compilation of YouTube videos showing ecstatic dogs welcoming soldiers who return home. Of course, the point here shouldn’t be that these people served in war (it’s a pretext like any other and dogs aren’t exactly aware of what it means to go “out to war” – to them, owners just “go out”) but rather, how these pups form and develop relationships. The more I see of man the more I like dogs, etc.
  • A discussion over PC Gamer’s forums on Modern Warfare 2 being boycotted by gamers who didn’t like the lack of dedicated servers turns up many lols, as the page for the official boycotting group shows many of these people actually playing the damn thing.
  • Dino D-Day. Hitler uses dinossaurs to conquer Europe. A Half-Life 2 mod in the making. Wow.

  • A real life invisible man.
